Set in Darkness
(Orion Publishing Group - 2000)

Rankin draws on his punk roots in Chapters Sixteen and Thirty Four, getting bonus points for name-checking the truly obscure (Klark Kent - alter ego for Police drummer Stu Copeland) and the truly classic (The Saints). Elsewhere it's the usual mix of Stones, early 70's prog-rock and several well-deserved nods to The Blue Nile. There are also a couple of fictitious groups thrown in - Obscura and The Robinson Crusoes.
